How long will my carpet take to dry?
The amount of time required for your carpet to dry is directly related to the amount and depth of the dirt/soil in the carpet. The deeper the soil has penetrated the carpet, the deeper the cleaning will need to be. Naturally it takes longer for a carpet to dry that was heavily soiled than it does a carpet with little soiling. Traffic lanes will usually take longer to dry than other areas of your carpet. Dry time also depends on the current weather conditions. It takes carpet longer to dry on a rainy day than a nice sunny day, this is because the high humidity causes slower evaporation. Generally, most of your carpet will feel dry to the touch within a couple hours, but it's a good idea to let it dry overnight before allowing much traffic on it.
Will my carpet re-soil faster after cleaning?
This is a good question. The answer is NO! We use a powdered cleaning agent, unlike many carpet cleaners that use a liquid cleaning agent. Liquids cleaners used by other companies tend to dry as a sticky film, and this film will attract and hold dirt. Our powdered cleaning agent dries to a powder and does not act as a dirt magnet.
Why does older carpet resoil faster?
When your carpet is new all of the individual fibers are very smooth, if looked at under magnification. Each fiber is as perfectly shaped as the one next to it, and the carpet has a uniform appearance. As your carpet gets older dirt and soil get trampled down into the fibers. Dirt is highly abrasive, and as you walk on your carpet the dirt scratches the small fibers that make up the carpet. These scratches will hold small amounts of dirt in them, that your vacuum simply cant remove, as enough fibers hold these microscopic dirt particles it will cause a discoloration to the carpet. In otherwords - the older a carpet is, the more damaged the fibers become, and the more readily it will resoil. The most important thing you can do to keep your carpet looking as new as possible is have it professionally deep cleaned at least twice a year, and vacuum it thoroughly everyday. Having your carpet professionally cleaned will get the dirt out of the scratches in the damaged fibers, and vacuuming it regularly will keep the new dirt from settling into, and ruining, the fibers.
I just had new carpet installed - when should I have it cleaned?
Having your carpet cleaned twice a year will keep it looking new much longer than having it cleaned only "when it appears to need it". Once your carpet looks dirty, then damage is being done to the carpet fiber. If you keep as much dirt as possible off the carpet it will maintain its new look much longer than a carpet that is not regularly maintained. Your new carpet is a major investment in your home, and regular cleanings will keep that investment looking its best and lasting far longer.
What cleaning method is best for my carpet?
Most major carpet mills recommend hot water extraction (often referred to as "steam cleaning"), as the preferred deep cleaning method for their carpets. This is the method we employ at Carpet Cruiser of Denver. Not just because it is recommended by major carpet mills, but also because its cleaning power goes beyond just the visible fiber tips. Some cleaners, that advertise a 1 to 2 hour dry time, will simply remove dirt from the fiber tips to give the carpet a clean appearance. Keep in mind that the appearance of clean is not as good as having it clean! Getting the most dirt out of your carpet will preserve its new look much longer.
Stain protectant - Yes or No?
This is for you to decide. Applying a carpet stain resistor is beneficial to ALL carpeting, but not always necessary to keep your carpet beautiful. The treatments are designed to help protect your carpet from liquid spills. They do little to protect your carpet from the abrasive effects of dirt. If you have a carpeted room that gets little use, and a spill would be highly unlikely, then there would be little benefit from the added cost of a stain protectant. However, if you have small children in the home, and spills are more likely to happen, then the protectant could keep that spill from becoming a stain.
Pet stains - can they be removed?
Sometimes a pet stain remains unnoticed for a very long time. They may use a corner or an area behind furnishings and it won’t get noticed until cleaning time, or while rearranging furniture. If these stains have been there for a while, or if your pet has used the same area for some time, the chemical makeup of the pet stain will actually change the dye pigment in your carpet, much like bleaching your hair does. Unfortunately, your carpet won’t "grow" back. There may also be other problems involved if the carpet backing has lost its integrity. If severe carpet and pad damage has occurred, and you have some spare left over pieces of carpet, then the best solution is to have us replace the section of damaged padding, then seam in new carpet from the left over piece you have. Most of the time the odor can be removed with subsurface cleaning equipment. We will be happy to evaluate your situation and advise of the best course of action, prior to starting the work. We come prepared for these things, so there's no need for us to call in a subcontractor.
How often should i have my upholstered furnishings cleaned?
Unlike your carpeting, upholstered furnishings really dont need to be cleaned unless they appear dirty. This is because, in most instances, there are few abrasive dirts hiding in the fiber. There are exceptions, but generally if your couch doesn’t appear dirty, or have an odor, then don’t have it cleaned. I’m not trying to drive away your business, I’m just trying to save you some money.
How often should i have my drapes cleaned?
Most of the dirt in your draperies is simply dust, not spills or stains. Your draperies worst enemy is the sun, and no one can clean out the effects of the sun. If you're a smoker, and have your carpets cleaned, I would recommend having the drapes done as well. They most likely aren't dirty, but getting the smoke out would make your home fresher.
Should i have my drapes cleaned while they are hanging or take them down?
Taking your drapes down and having them dry cleaned is always an option, it simply depends on how much work you wish to go through. Not to mention that many draperies, when dry cleaned, come back with an unpleasant odor, and may take several days for your dry cleaner to get them done. We can do the work for you, by cleaning them while they are hanging, and you won't have your home without drapes for days.
